Hair Removal FAQs

Laser hair removal is the ultimate in long lasting beauty treatments. Designed to be delivered in couses, this high-tech treatment not only removes hair at the follicle – it minimises future hair growth over time.

Particularly effective for those with dark, coarse hair, laser leaves skin hair free for longer. Despite being a more significant upfront investment, laser can save you money in the long run – cutting out spending on razors and waxing appointments more and more over time. Not convinced yet? It can also eliminate problems like ingrown hair and irritation caused by shaving.

To find out more about laser hair removal at Hair Ministry, feel free to get in touch with our team.

LumiLASE, designed by the same team as our beloved LumiHYDRO technology, is an advanced hair removal solution that employs state-of-the-art diode laser technology.

Designed to cater to all skin types, including very fair, tanned, and dark skin, it offers precise and efficient hair removal, ensuring skin looks as great as it feels. The device operates on an 808nm laser, which penetrates deep into the hair follicles to remove all traces of hair and significantly slow/prevent hair growth. It’s a sophisticated approach to achieving smooth, hair-free skin, regardless of your complexion or hair type, makes it a popular choice amongst our clients.

The LumiLASE system used at Hair Ministry is designed to be as comfortable as possible, with discomfort typically reported to be minimal or similar to the snap of an elastic band against the skin. Post-appointment, you might suffer some temporary redness or irritation similar to sunburn in the affected areas.

Of course, everyone’s pain tolerance is different. If you’re particularly sensitive to pain, you can discuss your concerns with your Hair Ministry therapist, who may be able to adjust the laser settings to make the process more comfortable for you.

Waxing is thought by most people to be a mildly uncomfortable process – especially for those experiencing it for the first time. The sensation is often described as a quick, sharp sting, similar to ripping off a plaster, that subsides almost immediately. The good news is that the feeling tends to lessen the more you experience waxing.

At Hair Ministry, we use high-quality wax and effective techniques to make the experience as comfortable as possible. If you have any concerns about pain at all, feel free to chat to your beauty therapist at the start of your appointment.

Waxing is a relatively cost-effective method of hair removal. Of course, prices vary across the UK according to your chosen location, therapist, and area of waxing – with averages falling everywhere from £10 to £70.

At Hair Ministry, we offer a range of waxing services, each priced according to the size and complexity of the area. For instance, an upper lip or chin wax is priced at £15, while a full leg and bikini wax costs £51.

At Hair Ministry, the cost of laser hair removal varies based on the area being treated. For instance, an upper lip laser treatment costs £50 for a single session or £250 if you choose to book a course of treatments. On the other hand, a full-leg laser treatment is priced at £240 per session, with the option to purchase a course of treatments for £1000.

These prices reflect the advanced technology and expertise required for laser treatments, and are competitive with the rest of the market. It’s worth noting that while laser hair removal may seem more expensive up front, over time it can prove to be a cost-effective choice due to its long-lasting results.

There’s no set timeframe as to how often you should get waxed. When booking your next appointment, you should take into consideration the area you’re looking to have waxed, and how quickly your hair grows there.
As a rule of thumb, our hair removal experts recommend booking in for a waxing appointment every 4-6 weeks. In theory, this aligns with the hair growth cycle, allowing the hair to reach approximately ¼ inch in length – at which point wax can effectively grip and remove it.

However, everybody is unique and your hair growth cycle might be faster or slower. If you’re uncertain about when to schedule your next appointment, don’t hesitate to ask your Hair Ministry aesthetician for advice.

Whilst laser hair removal used to work effectively on dark haired, light skinned people, technology has evolved. Thanks to technology like LumiLASE, laser hair removal now works across all skin types and pigment contrast levels – but it’s important to know that the effectiveness can be somewhat reduced compared to darker hair colours.

It’s always a good idea to have a consultation with our technicians before booking in for a full course of laser to help establish whether or not you’re a good candidate for the treatment.

Preparing your skin and hair properly before a waxing appointment can make all the difference to your final results. Our hair removal experts suggest taking the following steps into account:

Let Your Hair Grow Out: It’s crucial that your hair is at least ¼ inch long, prior to your waxing appointment. This will help the wax effectively attach to and remove the hair in full.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Try to avoid tanning or sunbathing at least 24 to 48 hours prior to your appointment, as waxing can irritate sunburned skin.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and moisturise your skin regularly leading up to your appointment. Hydrated skin allows the hair to be removed more easily.

Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol: These substances can make your skin more sensitive which might increase the discomfort during the waxing session.

It’s important to properly prepare yourself, your skin, and your hair prior to a laser hair removal session in order to get the best possible results. Our experts recommend:

Shaving The Area Where Requested to Do So: Typically, you’ll be asked to shave the area to be treated a day before your appointment. This ensures that the laser targets the hair at the root, beneath the surface of the skin.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun and sunbeds – tanned skin (even fake) can increase the risk of complications such as skin lightening.

No Waxing or Plucking: Because the laser targets the root of the hair, it’s important not to wax, pluck, or have electrolysis for six weeks before your treatment.

Arrive Fresh-Faced: On the day of your appointment, you should ensure the area to be lasered is clear of any makeup or skincare products.

Skip the Gym: Avoid intense workouts or anything that will make you sweat heavily before your appointment.
